WORKSHOP ------- TRIP

We together have a trip and talk about some differences between China and British from the experimence of going to contemporary museum and photographers' hub......

On Thursday 4 October, our Journey and Destination group visit a lot of places in Nottingham. Nottingham Contemporary, Paul Smith, Photographers’hub and Market square. As for me, the place gives me the deepest impression that is Nottingham Contemporary.

In Nottingham Contemporary, I see a lot of beautiful pictures. They are very elegant and imaginative. In addition, there are many creative productions that are sold which extremely attract me. From the picture 1 we can see, I do not know what is it and what is its function when I first time see it. I guess that they are may be some soapboxes. Until I touch them I know actually they are cutting tools which can cut potatoes and carrots. It is a great creative form. They look very nice and also having an amazing design concept. If we compare with Chinese cutting tools ( the picture 2), we found Chinese cutting tools look quit ugly and totally without any design concept. However, in the matter of fact, Chinese cutting tools are really effective and useful. It seems like the thinking way difference between Chinese and the British. As far as I am concern, the British have focused on the production of creativity and beauty while Chinese are keen on making production that emphasis on its practicality.

There is also the third picture can be seen. These watches look very nice. Beauty of simplicity. However, these watches do not have any numbers on the watch face so that we cannot make sure our time very accrete. It probably because the designer want to express a kind of artistic concept that our life do not need very busy, we can be carefree and do not need worry about the rule or time pressure. However, in fact, the function of watch that is make sure our time is accrete, if there are no numbers on the watch face, its function will disappear.

I am really keen on these creative productions. They can make our life more colourful. However, there is no doubt that the form of productions should follow their function. So that it would be better if these benefits can combine between British creativity, artistic style and Chinese practically.
