    Visual storytelling for comic effects.

What is your research question?
     I want to look at explore how camera technic and editing are use and enhance visual comic effects.

Research aim(s):
What are the overall aims of the project?
      Trying to research what kinds of camera technic and editing are the most effective to enhance the visual comic effects.

Research objectives(s):
What are the specific tangible project objectives?
Note: these are separate to what you personally need to learn in terms of skills and knowledge, see learning objectives below.
      The project objectives will find out what kind of camera technic and editing methods can enhance visual comic effects. So that I will look for different shooting methods and editing methods which can enhance comic effects in films, advertisements, and short  videos. For example, sometimes, using zoom, dolly in/out, slow-motion or quick motion can enhance visual comic effects. In terms of editing, what kinds of editing methods can enhance visual comic effects. For example, fast-paced editing can increase tension and then produce comic relief. However, these research acknowledge sound.

Rationale
·         What is the wider context of your project?
·           The generation of comic effects need a wonderful script, performance of actors,      lighting, and sound, while better camera technic and editing also can help the film to enhance comic effects because they play an important role on visual  effect.
·         
·         How does the project relate to your previous experience/practice?
·            I learned drama previously, so I was interested in how create comic effects by different methods.
·          
·         How does it relate to relevant current practices, debates and theory?
·            Some camera tschnic and editing cannot greatly enhance the film’s comic effects due to camera work and editing that are not quite effective.
·          
·             Why is the intended research significant? (So what?)
·                 This is because different shots and editing can produce different visual effects. However, the comic effects are more difficult to make. In general, comic effects use performance of actors, good scripts and sound to make. Thus, researching how use shots and editing to enhance comic effects are quite important.
·          
·         How does this project relate to your plans for the future?
               I want to make comedy film in the future.

                           The second story
Time: 19/11/2012
Place: Square and Accommodation
People: A(male), B(female), and C(female)

A walks in the Square. He is an Asian guy, handsome face. It seem like he is a oversea student because he carries a school bag. And meanwhile, his all clothes are top luxury brands, he looks like very rich. A walks up to a flower shop, buying a bunch of flowers. He walks for a while, he met B. They greet each other. B ask A:“Where are you going, why you take flowers?” A says:“ I will go C’s accommodation, today she invites me to dinner.” B says:“ She is a bitch! She has a boyfriend and also want to creep you!” A says:“ Do not say nastily words about her! She is very nice!” A walks away. B suddenly comes to his back and hug him. B cries and says:“ I’m loving you, do not you know?” A says:“ Sorry, let me go please.” He arrives at C’s accommodation. They began to dinner. C says:“ I think we should less time together because I have a boyfriend.” A says:“ WhyI just want to you happy!” C says:“ Many thanks for your kindness. As B said, I have a boyfriend so I should not accept your any kindness. It seems like wrong.” C cries. A says:“ It is none of her business! You do not need listen her words! She called you just now, right? You should know, she just want to make me love her and she can spend my money!” C cries loudly and says:“ But in fact It is true, we definitely cannot love each other. I am sorry, I think we really need think about our kind of relationship. Let’s never keep in touch, please.”

                     The first story (sequel)

Time17th/11/2012 morning
Place: platform and carriage
People: A and B
They look their tickets that their carriage number is N. So that they began to look for N, they run from the front of the train to the end. However, there is no N! The train will start at once. So they just get on a carriage which is next to the carriage M. After they are into the carriage they are very happy because the screen in the carriage shows that this is the carriage N. And then they look for their seats. There are two European old women sat their seats. B says:“Sorry, ladies, these seats are ours.” She shows her ticket for them. A native woman says:“The outside of the train shows that this is carriage A, and my ticket also is A. So this is my seat.” A says:“But you see, the screen shows this is carriage N and also it next to the M. So this is N’s seat.” The two European women stare them, no more speaking, just sat the seats, don’t move. A and B have to go to the one side of the carriage, it is very crowded, there are many people also having the same problem, their seats have been already taken. A and B show their tickets for the staff. But he does not care about it. He walked off after he talks to an interphone. A and B sat the worker’s seat having a rest. They find, standees who their seats have been taken are all Asian guys, except a middle aged black women. After a while, the worker comes here, he says to A and B:“Sorry, you cannot sat here.” They have to stand up, and they find sitting people are all the white race. B says:“What up?” The black woman next to her, says:“You cannot do anything, you have to stand here!” 4 hour later, arrive at London, most people get off. At this time, the voice box in the carriage sounds: “I am sorry today the railway station’s computer system have problem……” A says:“I really despair about British train.” And then they get off.

Time: 17th/11/2012
Place: go to the railway direction
People: A and B
There are two Asian girls walking so fast. They are going to the railway station direction. A walks ahead, she carries a big bag, she also wears a pair of glasses, jeans and sport shoes. B follows her, she takes a big blue suitcase, wears a white dress. At this time, frontal A says:hurry up! We just have 5 minutes! So that they began run. They seem like the Chinese oversea students, perhaps they will have a trip. They arrive the railway station, they need use ticket machine, but they do not know how to use it. Just have 4 minutes the train will leave. They ask the staff, a man quickly help them get tickets. They run on after they get tickets. They just have 3 minutes. Eventually, they arrive the platform, and wait for the train. They find the ticket show that the train arrives here at 6:20, but now has been 6:19:45, there is no train at allA this time A find the train stays at the opposite platform! It seems like they go the wrong way! They have to run to another platform. When they arrive and get on the train. A ask a passenger: The train will go to the London, is not it? The passenger says:no, in opposite platform. And then B ask the driver, driver also says the same words. Unfortunately, they have to run on again! When they arrive at the original platform, time is 6:24. They find the train gradually come here. Actually, the train just late 4 minutes.

   Visual storytelling for comedy.

What is your research question?

    What are the most effective ways to shoot for comic effects.

Research aim(s):
What are the overall aims of the project?

    Trying to research what kinds of camera work is most effective to make the comic effects more markedly.

Research objectives(s):
What are the specific tangible project objectives?
Note: these are separate to what you personally need to learn in terms of skills and knowledge, see learning objectives below.

     Specifically, this project will analyze  the best shots for the type of comedy, so there is a list that illustrate some types of comedy which I will research their shots in the next step.

     Generally, comedy film basically include two shooting ways: Multi-cam and Single-cam.

    The shots of Black comedy: <Two Smoking Barrels>,<Crazy Stone>, for example, the use of Black Comedy in the lens has fashion and modern. Especially using slow-motion, close-up and sub-lens, which create fantastic visual effects. And meanwhile, the film editing and rhythm are sprightly and comfortable.

    The shots of Custard Pie: <The Three Stooges>, for example, basically focus on action of actors.
    
    The shots of Screwball: <Mr Bean>, for example.
  
    The shots of Slapstick: <Home Alone>, for example.

    The shots of Action Comedy: <Rush Hour>, for example.

Rationale
·         What is the wider context of your project?
         The generation of comic effects  need  the wonderful script, action of actors, lighting, editing, sound effect and rhythm, while a better camera shooting also can help the film to produce comic effects because shooting play an important role on visual effect. A good shooting method can effectively illustrate the film’s style and rhythm. Furthermore, shooting can more effectively produce comic effects with editing, action of actors and lighting.

·              There is a phenomenon in recent years, some camera shooting methods               cannot greatly perform the film’s comic  effects due to camera work that is  not quite effective.

In general,  comedy use  action of actors, a good script and music to make comic effects. Thus, researching how to use shoot to make more effectively comic effects which become quite important.

    Something like “what are the most effective ways to  shoot for comic effect”.

Research aim(s):
What are the overall aims of the project?
   Trying to research what kind of camera work is most effective to make the comic effects more markedly

Research objectives(s):
What are the specific tangible project objectives?
Note: these are separate to what you personally need to learn in terms of skills and knowledge, see learning objectives below.
       This topic’s focus is on shooting, so that I need understand a variety of camera works. And meanwhile, I need analyse some films which can produce comic effects and research their camera works when comic effects happened.
What will you be producing do you think? Other than this understanding? A report/ a list of the best shots for the type of comedy.

·         What is the wider context of your project?
          The generation of comic effects cannot leave I don't understand this? the wonderful script, action of actors, lighting, editing, sound effect and rhythm, while a better camera shooting also can help the film to produce comic effects because shooting play an important role on visual effect. A good shooting method can effectively illustrate the film’s style and rhythm. Furthermore, shooting can more effectively produce comic effects with editing, action of actors and lighting.

        I learned drama before, so I was interested in how to create comic effects by different methods.

·            There is a phenomenon in recent years, some camera shooting methods     cannot greatly perform the film’s comic  effects, although the script is interesting, the visual effect of films is not interesting due to camera work that is  not quite effective. Where is the evidence of this?

·              The film is more difficult to produce comic effects than the drama because the drama can able to communicate with audiences directly, while the comic effect of film need to record and then show audiences, so that the shooting become an important role to create comic effects in the film.. I think you need to do more in this area. Find some discussion about how difficult it is to make comedy

·         How does this project relate to your plans for the future?
·              I want to make comedy film in the future.

What else. Where is the reading that is going to help this project? Although you are discussing shooting you should also look at editing. We also need some books on the different types of comedy. Comedy isn’t one thing, as there are lost of types of drama there are lots of types of comedy, so you need to see if there is any discussion about the different types of comedy films.
There is nothing about international business here. I thought this was about Chinese cinema.

           As for the first face, on the one hand, I will look at internet and read some books about the visual effect of film in order to find out more effectively camera works. On the other hand, I will analyse some films to find out what kind of camera shooting methods can create comic effects.
