Analyzing my experiment of film---Chinese fairy tales

In my film <Flat Story>, I apply a plot about a classical Chinese fairy tales and adapt it a little bit in the part of Jack and Ross having a date.  I apply it because it  has a good imagination and it  can make more romantic atmosphere. But the end of story make people despair. The reason is that Cowherd and the Girl Weaver can meet just  at the seventh day of the seventh lunar month each by  flocks of magpies fly to form a bridge with their bodies over the Milky Way, allowing the Cowherd and the Weaving Girl to meet each other. So I change the ending,Cowherd and the Girl Weaver have a new idea, they think maybe we can get together forever if we walk from another way. Finally, their dreams come true and they hug each other. Thus, changing  the story for a happy ending also can get comic effect, which can be helpful to make funnier in the low-budget comedy film.

How adapting Chinese fairy tale into the Chinese low-budget comedy film?

The Chinese fairy tale should be able to make funnier if it is involved  in the Chinese low-budget comedy film.

There is an example, <Chinese odyssey>, it applied a few of humor elements into the original story, making the story funnier.

 1> a new character
   
     In the <Chinese odyssey>, there is a new character-- Wu Kong's girl friend. This character's appearance make the story more complicated, such as Wu Kong fall in love with her, which make the film more interesting.


2> Slipsticks
     The slapstick is involved into Chinese odyssey, which increase the comedy atmosphere.

The advantages of adapting Chinese fairy tale to film

2> Subversion

Contemporary writers create script base on Chinese fairy tale, they can give the Chinese fairy tale a new idea or a new meaning. It is a good way to show the ideas of contemporary people, and can give the audience a new feeling to Chinese fairy tale. 


   

Like the film <A Chinese Odyssey>, it was adapted to a comedy film according to Chinese classical story.

The advantages of adapting Chinese fairy tale to film

1>  On the shoulders of a giant 

They are all famous and typical work; most Chinese people know and like them. It is good for scripts if the plots include some Chinese fairy tale.

  Like the 1998 Disney animated film. <Mulan>. It was        adapted    according to the legendary Chinese heroine.

Chinese Fairy Tale In Chinese

It has a very long history. Ancient Chinese used these stories to recorded to their experience with nature, to answer their children's questions like how the universe was created and how humans came into being, and to describe the ideal life in their mind. Many of today's famous movies and novels have evolved from these centuries-old short stories.

1>A strong imagination, a wide range of subjects.

The myth is the ancient people ride their strange imagination and fantasy works, with magical, rich, diverse characteristics. The surface looks very absurd, real simple, real, and vivid.

2> strong story, plot with a strong romantic color.

As Hou Yi shooting and hunting, Nu Wa made about people and pottery, the life scene into the story of people, to be romantic.

3>distinctive character of the heroine, most extraordinary.

The hero is the most primitive society labor hero, hero and other heroic ideal incarnation, and some is the heroine and human right the supernatural or hostile human group to artistic exaggeration and become, whether it is the vivid, is extraordinary.

Chinese Convention: Eating (4 It maybe a stratagem)

In fact, Chinese eating is very complicated. Chinese don't separate is not merely a kind of folkway and custom, but it is a means, a method, a repayment way, a way to express emotion, even is probably a kind of stratagem …

Thus, this point can be applied in the comedy film to show the "ugly character" of humans. 

For example, <Liu Lao Gen>, the business man invite mayor to dinner. Their purpose is getting more benefits from mayor.

    So I wrote a plot according to the Chinese eating character in the <flat story>. Susan tries to provoke Nancy into disliking Rita. And she tries to Nancy stay on her side. So Susan cooks for Nancy, this is a stratagem that be made by Susan.

Chinese convention：Eating (3 Promote friendship)

In the Chinese idea, "Have a meal" not only is for maintaining the health of the body, but also is a kind of life enjoyment, even is the means to promote friendship between the friends. After enjoying the sumptuous delicious food, you are glad, I am glad too, everybody is glad. The friendship between the friends has been strengthened in this kind of atmosphere.         

As for this character, Chinese eating  always appear for the ending of  comedy film, because it can increase a good atmosphere, give the film a happy ending.

For instance, the comedy film<The Chinese Feast>, 1995; and <Dancing Lion>,2007. They applied people together have a dinner as the ending. 

   So I wrote a plot according to the Chinese eating character in the <flat story>. Susan know her fault and want to have a friendship with Nancy and Rita, so she cook much tasty food and invite them. Except Susan’s sincerity, eating still is a reason that Nancy and Rita can forgive and can be friends with Susan.
