MA:
Study Proposal

Name: Wang Zhuo Fiona

Course: Rsch & Context

Date: 1th/NOV/2012

What is your subject of study?

Film Practice
This should be about your topic, so how to make low-cost comedy film more effectively for Chinese market

What is your research question?

How might low-cost comedy films be made more effectively for the Chinese market?

Research aim(s):
What are the overall aims of the project?

Using limited cost to make relevant higher-return comedy film which suit middle or small film group to do. This isn’t grammatically correct. This should be more like you are trying to establish how and if any structural understanding of comedy films might be applied in order to produce more consistent comedies and financial returns.

Research objectives(s):
What are the specific tangible project objectives?
Note: these are separate to what you personally need to learn in terms of skills and knowledge, see learning objectives below.

If I want to make the comedy film which is the low-cost and high-return, I should find what making ways can produce greatly comic effect. Thus, I need to analysis some Chinese low-cost comedy films in order to find out what elements can create comic effect, especially from visual aspect, including lighting, shooting, music (although it is not visual aspect), costumes and action. Secondly, I also need to analyse how can I do to make advantages of these elements greatly GRAMMAR. So that I will compare some wonderful low-cost comedy films with some failed low-cost comedy films and then I will know how to use these elements effectively. Finally, I will analyse what kind of modern production methods might save lower film production costs. (this seems to be a different subject  though

Rationale
·         What is the wider context of your project?
·
·            1. Why China recently appear a lot of the low-cost film, especially comedy film?
·                 (hi jools, I am sorry temporarily I cannot totally complete this question                  because of there are many information and I also have to translate from Chinese to English. However, I give the direction of my answer, if it is correct, no digress deviate, I will make efforts to explain it, thanks.)
·
·             2. According to Chinese market, under eight hundred thousand pounds  mean    low budget film. Good but so what?
·
·
·         How does the project relate to your previous experience/practice?
·
·              On the one hand, I am interested in how to produce comic effect when I learned         drama before, on the other hand, I watched many the low budget comedy film before, it is very popular in China today, and also some films have a high quality. So that I thought it would be better if although we do not have much money, we can also make interesting film.
·
·
·         How does it relate to relevant current practices, debates and theory?
·
·               There is a debate on the low cost comedy film, some people think it what is it? is a tendency for Chinese film market, and other consider that the low cost film is no audience, no policy and no advertisement. In fact, in China, it is dependent on the film itself, some can get a high box office income, however, some others are that nearly no people pay attention. I don't understand this sentence
·
·         Why is the intended research significant? (So what?)
·
·                This is because that these low budget comedy films not only can accord with     Chinese market, but also can show their unusual charm which different from high-budget comedy films. Good but grammar is poor
·
·
·         How does this project relate to your plans for the future?
·
·          I want to create my own low cost comedy film.
·

Bibliography
Cite essential background or contextual material using the Harvard System of referencing

           Some Chinese low-budget comedy films: <crazy stone>; <getting home>;<set off>
You need to look at comedy. Comedy writing, visual grammar, visual storytelling. Try some of these terms in the search box at ww.ntu.ac.uk/llr

Timetable
Outline a draft plan of action for the PGC stage.

1, Analysing typical Chinese low-budget  comedy films and find out their making ways. grammar
2, Having a comparison between successful and failed low cost comedy films and then will know how to make low budget comedy film will be more effective. This is somewhat problematic. Just because a film didn’t make a lot of money doesn't mean it wasn’t a good comedy. You are making too much of a direct link between the box office and the success of the film writing.
3,Finding out how to save cost when making comedy film.

Discuss the form with your supervisor and submit to dropbox on NOW by the end of academic week 15 (11/11/2012).
